The new film technology behind The Fantastic Mr. Fox

Stop motion is still a cherished hand crafted medium for entertainment, but the technology behind the movie is advancing. With live feed to the director, they save money and time by being able to shoot at multiple locations simultaneously!

Model building of the future?

The best way a designer can communicate to their director is through models and renderings. Models help the director see spacially. How much room with the actors have between the set and the audience? How high up will they be elevated? Will we need any extra safety percautions? A tiny version of the real thing will help answer some of these questions. Also, directors love to play with toys. These models are usually built out of foam core, wood, or matte board. In addition, the designer usually sketches in details like wallpaper, chair rails, crown molding, etc.

Sketchup is a free program by google that is making the creation of these models more detailed and easier to make. Simply create what you wish on the computer, and print it out. Glue it onto your foam core or matte board and assemble! However, this doesn’t give you texture which can be a big down fall. Here’s a video of someone creating a 3D model on sketchup.

Black light show

Theater is all about reflecting the world around us and duplicating it in a certain way to show an opinion, or lack there of. An illusion of course is how we communicate to the audience. Real life cannot happen on stage, so scenic painting, artifical lighting, artfully crafted costumes and symbolic blocking/directing is used to create an attempt at reflecting the real deal.  Theater is all about illusions. This happens to be a really cool one… (and not so realistic)

Theater and projection

This play uses projections instead of actual scenery. This may be how the future of theater looks like. This cuts cost and the scene changes are seamless as well as quick. Projection has been used in shows like Cirque du Solei in small amounts, but this show uses interactive projections as well as set pieces that have been painted white to have projections placed on them.

This set begins completely white, and as color is painted through, the play develops and finally ends where it began; completely white.

Starwars Home Theater Anyone?

I have to admit that I’d want this in my house. A Starwars themed media room is perfect for anyone who has an insatiable nerdy fixation with this epic story.

Technology in 2010 and Fox News’ always rediculous commentary..

This is pretty interesting! I would definately be interested in getting a pad that can charge almost anything I have. I’m barely ever at home because i’m constantly running to school/work so this would be really helpful to have. And no, it’s not because i’m a woman and I dont like the way cords look in my house! HAHAHA. Generalizations…
